RANGERS' TORREALBA SUSPENDED IN VENEZUELA FOR STRIKING UMPIRE

Texas Rangers catcher Yorvit Torrealba was suspended Monday from Venezuela's professional baseball league for 66 games for striking an umpire.

Torrealba released an apology, saying he was embarrassed about his argument having a the dish umpire after striking out Friday. He angrily put a hands around the umpire's mask and shoved him. He ended up being thrown.

"I needed to convey my sincere apologies to any or all parties for my actions," Torrealba stated in the statement. "I've extended an apology towards the Rangers organization too. I'm embarrassed for my conduct, and personally relayed that feeling towards the umpire next night's game.

"Around the area, I make an effort to be a good example for kids, especially individuals during my native Venezuela, and that i regret my actions," he stated. "I realize the responses towards the incident and can remember to set an optimistic example later on."

League Leader Jose Grasso Vecchio known as Torrealba's behavior unacceptable along with a breach of league rules.

Torrealba plays for that Caracas Lions if not playing within the majors.

His agent, Melvin Roman, stated Torrealba acknowledged he got caught up within the warmth from the moment.
